Patiala police have arrested four accused in connection with a long-running gang selling illegal weapons in Punjab from other states. Police have registered a case and started an investigation into where the four accused had brought the weapons and to whom they were selling them. The arrested Ranjit Singh, Jita, Tarun Kumar, Jasdeep Singh used to bring illegal weapons from other states and sell them in the state. Two .32 bore pistols and two .30 bore pistols and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the accused. Investigations so far have revealed that the accused used to bring most of the weapons from Madhya Pradesh and sell them here. Rajiv alias Raja, an A-category gangster, was also reported missing but was apprehended by police with a .32 bore pistol. Police are investigating from which states the accused were bringing illegal weapons and to whom they were selling them.
Apart from the gangster, a case has been registered against the other three accused under various sections at Pasiana police station. The arrested accused include two accomplices of gangster Rajiv alias Raja Tarun Kumar resident of Sanjay Colony Patiala, Jasdeep Singh alias Jas resident of village Rasulpur Saidan Patiala Hall resident of village Bareri Sector 41-D Chandigarh. Sukhwinder Singh Raja was also arrested. Apart from these, accused Sukhwinder Singh alias Raja, a resident of village Torowal, district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar has also been arrested. Both the accused had smuggled a pistol and five rounds of ammunition. A total of five pistols and 20 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the three accused. SP (Countryside) Dr. Mehtab Singh said that CIA staff Patiala had secret information that persons with criminal record were smuggling illegal weapons. A team was formed to probe the incident and a drive was launched to recover the weapons and arrest the culprits. Gangster Raja has been booked in 34 cases of murder, robbery and looting. The arrested accused Tarun Kumar and his father Ranjit Singh have been old associates of the gangsters. An important piece of information was also received that these illegal weapons were brought by the accused from Madhya Pradesh. These weapons were recovered. A case of theft under the Arms Act has been registered against him in Mohali, smuggling of liquor in Patiala’s Urban Estate police station and theft in Moolepur police station in Fatehgarh Sahib district. Jasdeep Singh (20) is doing machinist course in Chandigarh. A case of theft and smuggling of liquor has been registered against him in Urban Estate police station. Apart from this, no criminal record of accused Sukhwinder Singh has also come to light.
