International Human Rights Organization for Police Public Press Chairman Mr. Praveen Komal honored the Punjab Police personnel and citizens who are working day and night in the service of Punjabis by working tirelessly in the campaign against road safety, traffic awareness and war on drugs.
On this occasion, State President Punjab Mr. Raj Kumar Jindal, State Vice President Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, State Vice President Mrs. Rekha Arora, State President Handicapped Welfare Wing Mr. Avinash Sharma and Vice President of Women Wing Mansa Mrs. Poonam Sharma were present.
In this event, Sub Inspector in charge of Safe Punjab Anti Drug Helpline Mr. Rajinder Singh, Inspector in charge of Mansa Traffic Wing Mr. Bhagwant Singh Dhillon, ASI Traffic Wing Mr. Suresh Kumar Premi, Sub Inspector Mr. Jasbir Singh, Head Constable Mr. Baldev Singh, Mansa Prachar Company Channel Editor Mr. Ashwini Soni, Social Worker from Mansa was honored with a bouquet of flowers, a trophy and a certificate.
On this occasion, Mr. Praveen Komal said that 1,263 accidents and 461 deaths occur in the country every day, that is, 53 accidents and 19 deaths occur every hour. If we look at the statistics, 1.68 lakh people died in road accidents and 4.48 lakh people were injured.
These deaths occurred mostly in the age group of 18 to 45, which affected the segment of the population that contributes to the economy. Mr. Komal said that the mortality rate in accidents in Punjab is 76%. According to the data of Punjab Road Accident and Traffic-2021, 13 people have been falling victim to accidents in Punjab every day.
The saddest part is that out of the total 4589 deaths, 3276 deaths were attributed to speeding. According to the data given in the Rajya Sabha regarding traffic challans, very few challans were issued in Punjab during September 2019 to February 2023. Punjab collected only Rs 20.36 crore fine; Chandigarh collected Rs 61 crore, Haryana Rs 997.16 crore and Himachal Rs 319.75 crore fine.
Mr. Parveen Komal said that India has the second largest road network in the world, spread over 63.73 lakh km. There has been a remarkable 60% increase in national highways with an increase of 46,179 km in 4-lane and above highways in December 2023 as compared to 18,387 km in 2014. 87% of the road transport sector is passenger traffic and 60% is freight traffic.

The importance of traffic police increases even more to manage this large system. He said that the best way to prevent accidents is to increase awareness about traffic rules.
If the entire society takes it seriously, the number of accidents and deaths will automatically reduce. On this occasion, State President Raj Kumar Jindal praised the government’s war on drugs campaign and said that this work of the government and the increasing activity of the police against drug traffickers will play an important role in preventing the disease of drug addiction.
He appealed to the youth to give up drugs and keep an eye on their surroundings and immediately inform the police about drug traffickers.
